Accessibility Statement
Last updated August 21, 2026
Highland Home Care is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or voice control. This statement explains where we stand and how to tell us when something does not work.
01Our commitment
We provide care to people whose sight, hearing, mobility and memory change over time. A website that only works for some people would sit badly with that. We treat accessibility as part of building and maintaining this site, not as an afterthought.
02Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for making web content more accessible. This site is designed and built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA and WCAG 2.2 Level AA. WCAG 2.2 is the current W3C Recommendation and adds success criteria that WCAG 2.1 does not contain; we have applied both.
Partially conformant. We believe the pages we control meet Level AA, but some third-party content embedded in the site has not been independently verified, and the site has not yet been through a formal external audit or testing with a panel of assistive technology users. We describe the gaps below rather than claim full conformance.
03What we have built in
Specific measures in place across the site:
- A “skip to main content” link as the first focusable element on every page.
- Semantic HTML landmarks — header, navigation, main, footer — and one logical heading order per page with no skipped levels.
- Text alternatives for images that carry meaning, and empty alternatives for decorative images so screen readers pass over them.
- Color contrast that meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and interface components.
- Information is never conveyed by color alone.
- Full keyboard operability, with a clearly visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
- Dialogs that trap focus while open, close on Escape, and return focus to the control that opened them.
- Form fields with visible persistent labels, required fields marked in text as well as symbol, and error messages announced through a live region and tied to the field they describe.
- Interactive targets sized at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Menus, dropdowns and accordions that report their state through
aria-expanded. - Animation, parallax and the scrolling ticker are all disabled when your system is set to reduce motion.
- Layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide and up to 200% text zoom.
- Page language declared, and no restrictions on pinch-zoom.
The following address success criteria introduced in WCAG 2.2:
- Focus not obscured (2.4.11). The header is sticky, so pages reserve space above every focusable element. Tabbing never parks the focused control underneath the header.
- Target size (2.5.8). Interactive targets are at least 24 by 24 pixels, and most are 44 by 44. Links inside a paragraph are exempt under the criterion’s own inline exception.
- Dragging movements (2.5.7). No feature on this site requires a drag. Everything can be completed with single clicks, taps or key presses.
- Consistent help (3.2.6). The phone number sits in the same place in the header on every page, in the same order relative to the other controls.
- Redundant entry (3.3.7). Forms do not ask you to type the same information twice.
- Accessible authentication (3.3.8). Logging in needs an email address and a password and nothing else. There is no puzzle, no image test and no transcription step. Pasting is allowed, password managers work, and a “show password” control is provided.
04Known limitations
We would rather name these than leave you to discover them:
- Embedded map. The Google Maps frame on the contact section is supplied by Google and we cannot control its internal accessibility. The full address is always available as text next to it, and links out to Google Maps.
- Cookie consent tool. The consent banner is provided by a third-party plugin and has not been independently audited.
- Staff portal. Log-in, password reset and portal screens are rendered by Ultimate Member. We have styled them to meet contrast and focus requirements but the underlying markup is the plugin’s.
- Stock photography. Some photographs are generic stock images. Their alternative text describes what is shown but the images themselves do not depict our actual team.
- Documents. Any PDF we publish may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will supply the content in another format.
05Compatibility
This site is designed to work with recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile, used with the screen readers built into those platforms. It may not work as well in browsers more than two major versions old, or with JavaScript disabled — core content remains readable but interactive features such as the job filters will not run.
06Technical specifications
Accessibility relies on the following technologies working together with your browser and any assistive technology you use: HTML, WAI-ARIA, CSS, SVG and JavaScript.
07How we assessed this site
We evaluated the site against the WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria through a combination of automated checking, manual keyboard-only testing, heading and landmark structure review, and programmatic contrast calculation of every color pair in the palette. A formal third-party audit has not yet been carried out.
08Tell us about a barrier
If something on this site stops you doing what you came to do, we want to hear about it. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and what happened, and we will fix it or find another way to get you the information.
We aim to respond within two business days.
